Barbara May took a fine arts degree in woven textiles at Boston University and then taught herself bag-making, starting with zipper pouches as a hobby. The workshop is in Petoskey, Michigan, and every bag is still made there. She works in hand-painted embossed cowhide alongside Italian leathers, with the hardware kept deliberately spare.
